Since 1902, New Zealand has had its current flag to symbolize their nation. Adopted around the time of the South African War, New Zealand’s 1902 version replaced the Union Jack that was being flown over the country since the mid-1800s. These days New Zealand is no longer set on having Britian’s Union Jack in the upper right hand of their flag. They announced today that there will be a referendum held in 2016 to change the flag. Once the referendum is voted through, then discussions will start on the best design. The process will cost their government 26 million NZ dollars. Veterans are none to happy about this.

You can find more of the proposed flags here or go straight to the flag website NZflag.com. There are also more design ideas here.
